Sixth Form Council and Events
The Sixth Form are continually involved in a variety of activities, many of which are organised by the Sixth Form Council. It was a busy first term at Knights Templar, with many events including the Sixth Form Big Quiz and the Sixth Form Revue, building towards our Dinner Dance to celebrate Christmas.
As is the case every year, 2015 saw the reprise of the infamous sixth form revue; a glorious smorgasbord of impressions, mockery and innuendo. This year was a huge success, not only due to the brilliant £2000 profit, but also the outstanding effort of the cast and crew who painstakingly spent hours creating a performance that kept the audience chortling from start to end. The sixth form revue was indeed a spectacle to behold and ended the year of 2015 on a perfectly humorous note. The Sixth Form Council donated £1000 of the profit to Keech Hospice.
Interact is a group of Sixth Form students who form the youth wing of Baldock's Rotary Club. Over the festive period we hosted a Christmas lunch for the elderly citizens of Baldock, where we helped to serve refreshments and drinks. It was a very enjoyable afternoon and the response was that it should continue for many years to come! We are also currently planning a BBQ at the Baldock Beast Half Marathon for the spectators. This is on the 15th of February 2015, and is sure to be a great fundraising event. We hope to use any money raised towards an Easter event for the children at Weston Way Nursery.
We are a group of year 12 students who want to get the school more involved with the community through organising various events and activities. We are currently in the process of organising a trip to the local retirement home with the band and plenty of baked goods to entertain the elderly members of the community.
An enthusiastic and conscientious group of KTS Sixth Form Prefects recently gave back to the local Baldock community by assisting with the tidying and cleaning of the War Memorial located in the Tesco grounds. The school was contacted by the Deputy Manager of Tesco who was hugely impressed by the positive response and endeavours of our Prefects in helping with this initiative. The Deputy Manager added that he is now looking to continue a working relationship with the KTS Sixth Form in future community initiatives.
The annual Christmas Fete is always very well attended by the Sixth Form, who run a variety of stalls and supervise the younger years. The fete raises money for school funds and Sixth Form-led stalls have previously included gingerbread decorating, a photo-booth, and a chocolate tombola, which all help to contribute to what is always a very festive and successful afternoon!
The Sixth Form Big Quiz
The Sixth Form Big Quiz is held 2 or 3 times through the course of a school year and is extremely popular. Money raised from the quizzes helps to fund events such as the Dinner Dance. Attendance is always high, with many teams taking part. The most successful rounds from the past have been: music, Harry Potter and Disney, with some teams even scoring full marks! In December 2015 extra marks were given to team where all members were wearing a Christmas jumper!
‘The quiz was really varied, which gave everyone an opportunity. I thought it was great’- 6th form student.
The Sixth Form Dinner Dance
Each December the year 12 and year 13 students put on their suits and frocks to attend the annual Dinner Dance which is held in the Spirella Ballroom in Letchworth. Students enjoy a three course meal before the traditional awards are presented. Guests are treated to music, often from a live band, and a DJ to top off a fantastic evening in the countdown to Christmas.
