School Council

The Student Council acts as a forum that allows students to make a real difference to the school ecosystem. Councillors are democratically elected by their peers and act as a lobby group for the interests of students, ensuring the voice of all Knights Templar Students is heard. Councillors influence all areas of school life, from decisions about locker size and uniform regulations, through to school strategic planning and suggestions to enhance educational achievement.

Once a term councillors liaise with school governors and senior management to bring about changes that enhance all students’ experience of the school.

The council exists to:

  • Allow students to make positive and lasting changes to their education
  • Suggest improvements to school pastoral systems
  • Take a leading role in fund raising and promotion of good causes around the school
  • Negotiate school behaviour policies
  • Ensure that all students have a voice

The student council is well established and thriving, currently there are 40 representatives on the council acting on behalf of years 7 to 11.  There are three members of sixth form to guide younger students as well as represent the interests of the sizable sixth form population.

Last year the Council succeeded in a number of areas, including:

  • Changes to the school lunchtime menu
  • Alterations to uniform policy
  • Organising and running the Christmas and summer fete
  • Raising money for student led initiatives
